Call for sessions: Dynamics in an Unequal World
5th Global Conference on Economic Geography 2018 „Dynamics in an Unequal World“
Cologne, 24-28 July 2018
Under the umbrella topic “Dynamics in an Unequal World”, the University of Cologne invites you to participate in the fifth Global Conference on Economic Geography 2018 to be held in Cologne, Germany.
In global terms, we realize uneven development is occurring, resulting in some regions and countries succeeding disproportionately, while others are failing (please see our editorial in this issue of the VGDH-Rundbrief). What drives the dynamics of this rise and fall and what are the implications? Who will be the next winners and who the losers? What role do rural and urban areas play in economic development? And how will different regions evolve in the Global South in the future? Economic geography with its focus on uneven development is well-positioned to map these dynamics, explore the implications, and find new ways in which economies can be conceptualized and researched.
The five-day conference will incorporate a wide range of items on the agenda. We expect to welcome more than 500 participants from over 60 countries, including some of the most prestigious scholars from the discipline. Apart from scientific paper sessions, the conference will also include field trips and walking tours to different destinations in and around Cologne, an ice-breaker party, and a conference dinner.
Registration for attendees and the call for sessions is available from July 24, 2017 via the conference’s webpage (www.gceg2018.com). A call for papers will follow at the end of November 2017.
To enable us to cover a broad selection of up-to-date topics, we warmly invite you to participate in the Global Conference on Economic Geography 2018 by suggesting sessions – the last date for session submission is the end of October 2017. Each session is scheduled to host four 20-minute presentations. Speaker contributions will be selected by the chair and co-chair(s) of the session. Suggestions should include the proposed title, the names and affiliations of the intended chair and co-chair, and a brief abstract (300 words) outlining the topic and its relevance to the conference. Acceptance of sessions will take place in November and will follow a non-competitive procedure based on the usual scientific criteria.
Please submit your suggestions using our online form at: www.gceg2018.com/call-for-sessions-and-papers.html
We look forward to hearing from you.
