Postdoc on environmental and ecological modelling

The position is offered for a period of 4 years. The starting date is 01 February 2023. The position is fulltime with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 100 %).
 
You will be based in the lab of Environmental Informatics, where we explore spatial sensing of social-ecological systems through networked sensing, remote sensing, and AI. We support the sharing of our knowledge through open source code and open data. Our team comprises of 14 employees (https://uni-marburg.de/kJLc3).
 
We are looking for a scientist who will be a proactive contributor to our team’s development, enhance the Department of Physical Geography’s research focus, and actively participates in the Department of Geography and wider university’s research networks and initiatives, especially those at the interface of remote sensing, biodiversity, nature conservation, and informatics.

Tasks:

  • modelling and analyses of environmental and biodiversity information using field and remote sensing data
  • developing your own research focus within the remit of our working group’s vision
  • administration related to being a joint leader of our working group
  • scientific services in research and teaching

The position is limited to the period which is adequate to the duration of the qualification period. The qualification goal is a habilitation or an equivalent qualification required for a professorship. Within the scope of the assigned duties it will offer the possibility of independent scientific research for further qualification. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 S 1 WissZeitVG.

Profile:

  • MSc-degree (or equivalent) and a doctorate with a solid track record of research within our lab’s research themes
  • willingness for own scientific qualification as well as to acquire and carry out third-party funded projects
  • extensive knowledge and experience in the programming language R
  • competent dealing with spatial data and spatial modelling
  • experiences with machine and/or deep learning
  • efficient self- and group management and an effective, goal-oriented working style
