Starting on the next possible date and preliminarily limited to a fixed contract until 31.12.2025, the project C02 of the CRC-TRR 228 at the Department of Geography is seeking one

Postdoctoral Researcher (100%)

The Collaborative Research Center CRC-TRR 228 „Future Rural Africa. Future-making and social-ecological transformation“ combines expertise from the two Universities of Bonn and Cologne to study newly emerging issues of social-ecological transformation and future-making in Africa. The project C02 explores visions, knowledge production and strategic planning practices related to the Kenyan energy transition.

Your respon­si­bilities:  
  • Conducting empirical research on geothermal development in Kenya and energy systems and strategies in Kenya and other East-African countries.
  • Development of the conceptual and methodological framework on energy transitions in the Global South
  • Publications in Scientific Journals
Your qualifi­ca­­tions:  
  • A PhD in Economic Geography or a related field
  • Empirical research experience in Sub-Saharan Africa, preferably in the field of energy research
  • Lead-authored publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
  • Ability and willingness to travel independently for extended periods of time (field-work in Kenya and other places)
  • Good knowledge of interview and other qualitative as well as quantitative methodologies
